Tony Lucia was born on August 23, 1987 in Plymouth, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2006 for his freshman season. Lucia is a strong passer with playmaking skills.

During Tony Lucia's sophomore season he earned his second letter. He played in 44 of the team's 45 games and scored a goal in double overtime against Minnesota State in the 3rd game of WCHA playoff series. Tony Lucia primarily played left wing on the first through third lines. He earned his second letter with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team.

Tony Lucia played in 43 Gophers WCHA games his freshman season. The active forward scored 19 points on seven goals to rank him fifth among rookies in scoring. He assisted on three game-winning goals. Lucia finished the year with a +6 rating. He frequented Minnesota’s third line.

Tony Lucia played the 2005-06 season for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL where he finished fifth on the team in scoring with 35 points on 12 goals in 56 games. Lucia played his prep hockey at Wayzata High School in his sophomore and junior seasons. Lucia led the team and finished 22nd in the state of Minnesota in scoring with 63 points on 27 goals in his junior season. Tony Lucia was drafted with the 193rd overall pick in the sixth round by the San Jose Sharks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Tony Lucia is a management major at the University of Minnesota. He enjoys golfing and the cabin in his free time. He is the son of Gophers head coach Don Lucia and his wife Joyce.
