More Info
Seth Helgeson was born on October 8, 1990 and grew up in Fairbault, Minnesota. Of course, Fairbault is well-known for Shattuck-St.Mary's, but Seth Helgeson stuck to playing for the Fairbault High School team instead. During his sophomore season at Fairbault, Seth Helgeson earned a scholarship to the University of Minnesta to play with the Golden Gophers hockey team. He accepted the scholarship, and then to prepare for college-level play, he joined the USHL.
Seth Helgeson played for the Sioux City Musketeers for two seasons, the equivalent of his junior and senior years of high school (2007-2009). He was noted for his size, speed, and physicality, yet his coaches knew he had to work more on his offensive skills. He had plenty of opportunity to work on those offensive skills during the course of 58 games he played on the Sioux City Musketeers.
Seth Helgeson was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the NHL picks. This made him number 114 overall in the 2009 draft.
Seth Helgeson's rookie year with the Minnesota Gophers hockey team boasted a player with much potential. Helgeson played in 31 games as a freshman, earning his first letter. His only goal with the Gophers was an important, game-winning goal with 7:02 left in the 3rd period of a 4-2 win in the WCHA playoffs.
Helgeson's sophomore season, 2010-11, was full of playing time; Helgeson was one of only two players to play in all 36 Gopher Hockey games. He led the team with 66 penalty minutes. Seth Helgeson remained a key player throughout his sophomore season.
