Ryan Stoa
Ryan Stoa was born on April 13, 1987 in Bloomington, Minnesota. Stoa joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2005 for his freshman season. Stoa is the Gopher’s fifth-leading returning scorer. Ryan Stoa had a rough junior season in 2007-2008. He played in the first 2 games before suffering a serious knee injury. After surgey and rehab, Ryan Stoa returned for individual workouts, but was unable to see game action. Ryan Stoa was given a medical redshirt. Ryan Stoa appeared in 41 Gophers hockey games his sophomore season and ranked seventh on the team in scoring with 24 assists on 12 goals. Stoa helped the team with a solid +13 rating, and was often the left winger on the Gopher’s first line. Ryan Stoa was the only Gophers freshman to play in all 41 games in 2005-06. Stoa ranked seventh on the team and second among freshman with 25 points on 10 goals. Stoa had a +18 rating and was on the Gopher’s top line as a freshman. Ryan Stoa played two seasons in the U.S. National Team Development Program, where he was a teammate of fellow Gopher Jeff Frazee. He finished the 2004-05 season fourth on the team in scoring with 38 assists on 20 goals. Stoa is a graduate of Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ryan Stoa played prep hockey at Bloomington Kennedy High School before joining the NTDP. He posted 36 points on 14 goals to earn all-Lake Conference honorable mention his sophomore season. Ryan Stoa was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with the 34th pick in the second round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Ryan Stoa enjoys fishing and golfing in his free time.
