Ryan Flynn was born on March 22, 1988 in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Flynn joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2006 for his freshman season. Flynn is a prototypical power forward who skates well through traffic.

During Ryan Flynn's 2007-2008 sophomore season, he played in 38 games and recorded 15 points over 14 games. One season highlight occurred when Ryan Flynn assisted Tony Lucia’s double overtime win in the third game of the WCHA playoff series at Minnesota State. Ryan Flynn also played with the US national team in the Czech Republic and was recognized as the team’s Player of the Game in a match-up against Canada. Ryan Flynn earned his second letter with the Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team following his sophomore season.

Ryan Flynn appeared in 43 Gophers games his freshman season and owned totals of 13 assists and five goals. He led the team in penalty minutes with 58. Flynn was the owner of a +15 rating. He was a frequenter of the Gophers third or fourth line at right wing.

Ryan Flynn spent two seasons with the U.S. National Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan before joining the Golden Gophers hockey team. He had 33 points on 16 goals in 59 games. He graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School but played his prep hockey at Centennial High School in his freshman and sophomore seasons. He was third on the team in scoring in 2003-04 with numbers of 69 points on 29 goals. Ryan Flynn was drafted by the Nashville Predators with the 176th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Flynn also earned a baseball letter at Centennial.

Ryan Flynn is a management major at the University of Minnesota. He enjoys golfing, fishing and hunting. His older brother, Greg, is a junior defenseman at Air Force. He is the son of Jim and Theresa Flynn.
