Nick Larson hails from Stillwater, Minnesota and he attended Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood before transfering to the USHL and competing for the Omaha Lancers.
In 2006-07, Nick Larson was a captain on Hill-Murray’s roster. He was also selected to be the St. Paul Pioneer Press’ Player of the Year. Nick Larson's accolades don't stop there. Larson was named as a Mr. Hockey finalist and was an honorable mention for the AP’s All-State team.
Nick Larson appeared in 14 games for the Gophers in his 2008-09 freshman season. His playing time was dramatically increased for the 2009-10 season as he played in 33 of the team's 39 games. Nick Larson had a breakout game against Harvard with two goals to break the 1-1 tie; Larson led the Gophers to victory. Larson is, yet another, player that was named to the WCHA All-Academic team; this was his second year in a row.
In 2009-10 for Larson's sophomore season, Larson appeared in 33 of the Gophers' 39 games. Larson played a critical role for the Gophers throughout the season, having an especially breakout game against Harvard with two goals to break a 1-1 tie and lead the Gophers to a 3-1 win.
In 2010-11 for Larson's junior season with the Minnesota Gophers, Larson skated in 20 games and had 11 points. Four of his five goals came at home in front of the Mariucci Arena crowd. The Minnesota Gophers were 6-3-1 when Larson had a point.
