Mike Hoeffel was born on April 9, 1989 in North Oaks, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers hockey team in 2007 for his freshman season.
Mike Hoeffel played played left wing on all four lines during his inaugural season in 2007-08. He played in all 45 games and ranked 6th on the team in scoring (19 points). Mike Hoeffel was on fire during the WCHA Final Five semifinal when he scored both goals in team’s 2-1 victory against Colorado College. These back to back goals earned Mike Hoeffel all-tournament honors. Mike Hoeffel earned his first letter with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team after his freshman year.
Mike Hoeffel played one year in the U.S. National Team Development Program, where he finished eighth on the team in scoring with 16 goals and seven assists in 44 games. He graduated from Huron High School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but played prep hockey at Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, Minnesota. There he finished 11th in the state in scoring with 71 points on 27 goals in 31 games. Mike Hoeffel was drafted by the New Jersey Devils with the 57th pick in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Mike Hoeffel plans to be a business major at the University of Minnesota. He enjoys playing tennis in his free time. He is the son of Tom and Cathy Hoeffel.
