Mike Carman was born on April 14, 1988 in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2006 for his freshman season. Carman is a solid playmaker with impressive speed and a physical game.

During his 2007-2008 sophomore season, Mike Carman missed the first semester of school but returned for the final 23 games. One highlight of Mike Carman's season was when he scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Minnesota State. Mike Carman recorded 11 points over 10 different games, including the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Mike Carman's 2007-2008 season also included international travel. He played for the US under-20 national team for the IIHF World Junior Championships in the Czech Republic and Mike Carman also played with the US men’s select team that competed for the Deutschland Cup in Germany. After his season, Mike Carman earned his second letter.

Mike Carman played 41 games in his freshman campaign, scoring 20 points to rank fourth among rookies in scoring. Carman led the team with three shorthanded goals while tying for the team lead with four game-winning goals. He was the owner of a solid +11 rating, impressive for a freshman. Carman often was center of Minnesota’s third line.

Mike Carman played two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he finished third in scoring with 21 goals and 33 assists in 60 games in 2005-06. He graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, but played his prep hockey at Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, Minnesota. His sophomore season saw him notch 56 points on 19 goals. Mike Carman was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche with the 81st overall pick in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Mike Carman enjoys golfing in his free time. He is the son of Thomas and Danette Carman. He played hockey in England from the ages of seven to nine.
