Michael Shibrowski is from Andover, Minnesota and attended Benilde-St. Margaret's high school.

In 2010-11, Shibrowski appeared in 45 games for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL under head coach Regg Simon where Shibrowski compiled a 21-16-5 record with a 2.59 goals against average. Shibrowski also boasted a .912 save percentage.

For Shibrowski's freshman season, 2009-10, he joined Colorado College after playing 25 games for the Owatonna Express of the NAHL. He appeared in two games for the Tigers.

Shibrowski came to the Minnesota Gophers in 2011-12 for his sophomore playing season.
