Kevin Wehrs was born on April 7, 1988 in Plymouth, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2007 for his freshman season. The Gophers looked for Wehrs to anchor powerplays at the defense position.

During his freshman season, Kevin Wehrs fulfilled the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team expectations. Kevin Wehrs competed in 41 games and recorded 7 assists in 7 different games. Kevin Wehrs also assisted in the first goal in eventual wins over Michigan Tech and Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Kevin Wehrs earned his first letter after his 2007-2008 freshman season.

Kevin Wehrs played two seasons with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL before coming to Minnesota. The scrappy defenseman scored 13 goals and 49 assists in 111 games with the Roughriders. Wehrs played prep hockey at Wayzata High School, where he scored 13 goals and 19 assists in 23 games.

Kevin Wehrs enjoys fishing and golfing. He is the son of Dan and Tracey Wehrs.
