The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey cheer team is very unique since few college hockey teams have cheerleaders. The University of Minnesota is especially fortunate to have such a talented group of young women who can support the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey at home games, in addition to getting the crowd excited.

The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey cheerleaders are coached by Sam Owens and Amy Sucha. These coaches choreograph both individual and synchronized skating and dance routines in addition to more traditional cheers conducted in the stands.

All women chosen for the team must have a strong background in figure skating in order to complete the choreography on ice. The cheerleaders must also possess energy to pump up the crowds when they cheer in the stands during hockey play. On average, about 12 women are selected annually to be a part of the University of Minnesota hockey cheer team.

The University of Minnesota hockey cheer team is just another example of the fun atmosphere created in Mariucci Arena during home games. The University of Minnesota hockey cheer team hopes that surrounding college hockey teams begin to develop programs so the sport is better recognized around the country.
