Derek Peltier was born on March 14, 1985 in Plymouth, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2004 for his freshman season.

Derek Peltier is one of six seniors on the Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team roster this season. In his junior year, Peltier played in all 44 contests with 15 points on four goals. The defenseman is a solid blueliner whose team is 10-2-0 when he scores a point. Peltier is a positive presence on the ice, as he had a +14 rating in his junior campaign.

Derek Peltier appeared in all 41 games his junior campaign, scoring 18 points with one goal. He helped his team win whenever he was on the ice, as he owned a +12 rating. Peltier hardly ever let a goal in during his shifts.

Derek Peltier played in 43 of 44 games his freshman year and finished with 19 points on six goals. He was tied for eighth on the team in scoring as a freshman defenseman, not an easy feat. Peltier also led the team with a +17 rating. The Gophers went 13-2-0 when Peltier tallied a point.

Derek Peltier suited up for two seasons with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL where he scored 11 goals and 46 assists in 111 career games. Peltier played prep hockey at Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, where he was named All-Classic Lake and all-state honorable mention by the AP and the St. Paul Pioneer Press in 2001-02. Derek Peltier was drafted 184th overall in the sixth round by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Derek Peltier is a business and marketing education major. He enjoys fishing, golfing and spending time at his cabin. He is the son of George and Teresa Peltier.
