David Fischer was born on February 19, 1988 in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2006 for his freshman season.

David Fischer played in 42 games his freshman season and tallied five assists. His first career point came on October 20, when he assisted on the game winning goal. The 6-3 defenseman was the owner of a +3 rating.

During David Fischer's sophomore season with the Minnesota Gopher hockey team in 2007-2008, he was active in all 45 games and scored 13 points. The highlight of David Fischer's season was when he scored the game-winning goal against Alaska Anchorage at the start of the Minnesota Gophers hockey season. Due to his performance, David Fischer earned another letter with the Gophers.

David Fischer played prep hockey at Apple Valley High School, where he was a two-year captain. Fischer was awarded with Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey award in 2005-06, when he led the team and finished eighth in the state among defenseman in scoring with 39 points on eight goals. Fischer was taken with the 20th overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

David Fischer enjoys playing racquet sports and wakeboarding in his free time. He is the son of Joe and Deb Fischer.
