Brian Schack was born on January 11, 1987 in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers hockey team in 2006 for his freshman season.

In his sophomore season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team (2007-2008), Brian Schack was frequently sidelined from practice with a recurring rib injury. Brian Schack participated in 12 games and earned his second letter.

Brian Schack appeared in 28 games for the Minnesota Gophers during his freshman campaign. The big defenseman finished the year with eight points with one goal. Schack scored his first goal in a 2-1 loss at Wisconsin on January 12. He finished with an excellent +8 rating.

Brian Schack spent the 2005-06 season with the Southern Minnesota Express of the NAHL, where he had totals of 14 points with two goals. Schack played his prep hockey at Totino-Grace High School, where he was 12th in the state among defensemen in scoring with numbers of 45 points on 24 goals.

Brian Schack enjoys playing golf and guitar in his free time. His favorite hockey moment was playing in the 2005 Minnesota state tournament. Schack is the son of Robert and Celeste Schack.
