Brent Solei was born on March 26, 1984 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gophers men’s hockey team in 2004 for his freshman season.
Brent Solei got an exhibition win in a 6-2 victory over Lethbridge on October 8 of his junior season. Solei was awarded with the team’s Mike Crupi Most Determined Player Award.
Brent Solei earned a letter in his sophomore year but did not make an appearance. His freshman season saw the backup goalie earning a win against the University of Calgary on October 7.
Brent Solei played in 2003-04 for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL. He was the 2004 NAHL MVP. The compact goalie led the league with a .935 save percentage, seven shutouts and 1,280 saves. Solei finished with a 24-10-0 record. He played his prep hockey Elk River High School, where he was the winning goaltender in the Elks’ state championship in 2001.
