Alex Kangas
Alex Kangas was born on May 28, 1987 in Rochester, Minnesota. He joined the University of Minnesota Gopher’s men’s hockey team for his freshman season in 2007. With the Minnesota Gopher hockey team in 2007-2008, Alex Kangas was a goalie star. Alex Kangas took over as starting goalie during the second half of the season. After adjusting to this position, Alex Kangas posted the best single-season numbers in Minnesota Gophers hockey history. Alex Kangas set Minnesota Gopher hockey's goaltending records-- 1.98 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. The Minnesota Gopher hockey team awarded Alex Kangas with his first letter following the 2007-2008 season. Alex Kangas is a gifted goaltender who has a knack for reading plays in front of him. He is tall at 6-2 but uses a butterfly/standup style to get low for shots when he has to. Kangas shares time in the net with junior Jeff Frazee. Alex Kangas played with the Indiana Ice of the USHL last season. He posted a 19-19-5 record with a 3.31 goals against average and a .899 saves percentage. Kangas was also 6-1 in playoff contests. Kangas also spent one season with the Sioux Falls Stampede, where he posted a 20-6-3 record, a 2.15 gaa and a .930 save percentage with three shutouts. Before the USHL, Alex Kangas played for Century High School, where he was a three-time all-conference honoree. Kangas dominated with a 23-4-1 record, 1.86 gaa and a .937 save percentage in the 2004-05 season. The promising goalie was selected with the 135th overall pick in the fifth round by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Alex Kangas enjoys golfing and fishing in his free time.
