In the 1990s, the Varsity Theater was turned into the Varsity nightclub, but proved unsuccessful. Today, the theater has been turned into mainly a concert venue, and has discovered the concert niche is fitting for the Varsity Theater.
Everyone from Black Rebel Motorcycle club to incendiary rapper Ghostface Killah has been on the Varsity Theater schedule. The venue offers unbeatable sightlines to the stage if one can get there early and grab seating at a couch or table on the elevated left or right wings of the floor. Otherwise the floor itself is narrow but deep, leading to a bar in the back of the room. Basically, wherever you stand in the Varsity Theater, you are directly in front of the stage and not way off to the right or left.
