The Northeastern Huskies Hockey team is led by Paws, its loyal mascot, and the team sports black and red jerseys.  Home games are held in Matthews Arena, or what is dubbed as the world's oldest ice hockey arena.  Matthews Arena was the original home of the Boston Bruins and Celtics and has been Northeastern hockey's home since 1929-1930.  Matthews Arena was named for George J. Matthews who is a member of the Boston business community and generously funded the arena.  In 1995, Matthews Arena was reopened with a new lobby and ice surface to keep it modern and up to date.

The Northeastern Huskies Hockey team is a member of the Hockey East athletic conference, and in all fairness their record could best be described as average overall.  The Northeastern Huskies Hockey team peak occured in the 1980s when it captured the Beanpot tournament an impressive 4 times and qualified for the NCAA frozen four.

Northeastern Huskies Hockey

The Northeastern Huskies Hockey team has had a string of well-known coaches.  Perhaps the most famous is Fern Flaman, a Hockey Hall of Famer himself.  Fern Flaman coached the Northeastern Huskies Hockey team for nearly 20 years, starting in 1970.

Individual Northeastern Huskies Hockey team players have also been successful over its many seasons.  These former Northeastern Huskies Hockey team standouts include Ray Picard, Keni Gibson, and Bruce Racine.  Both Picard and Racine were All-Americans and winners of the prestigious Hobey Baker Award.
