Minnesota Gopher Hockey

 

 

Minneapolis/St. Paul's University of Minnesota is the origin to the Minnesota Golden Gopher men's hockey team. The Gopher Hockey team is part of the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association) and the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).  Minnesota Gopher Hockey Tickets sell quickly.


The players of the men's Gopher Hockey team are not strangers to victory. They have won the NCAA Championship seceral times: 1974, 1976, 1979, 2002, and 2003. Many of the Gopher Hockey players will go on to play for the NHL, maybe even for the Minnesota Wild!

 


The Minnesota Gophers hockey team is a team that prides itself on players from their home state. It is important to a team with such a dedicated fan base that their players stick with the tradition of recruitment in Minnesota. Dedicated fans that were either born and raised in Minnesota or attended the University of Minnesota know that the Minnesota Gopher Hockey team is one that acknowledges the importance of hockey in Minnesota and stays with the traditions of its predecessors.

 


Currently, the Minnesota Gophers Hockey team is coached by Don Lucia. While Don Lucia has been coaching the Gophers, the team has gone to the NCAA tournament seven times. A famous coach from the Gopher Hockey team past is Herb Brooks, known for the 1980 Olympic fame.

 


The men's Gopher Hockey team plays at the Mariucci Arena which is near the Williams Arena and the new TCF Stadium which will be completed in 2010 for the Gopher Football team. This area near Stadium Villiage on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus will be a unique area to other Universities. Within 2 small city blocks all of the major sports complexes for the University of Minnesota will be in a very close area. Past venues that have housed the Minnesota Gopher Hockey team were the Minnesota State Fair Grounds Hippodrome (1923-1934), St. Paul Auditorium (1932-1950), Minneapolis Arena (1925-1950), Williams Arena/Old Mariucci Arena (1950-1993), and from 1993 to present: the Mariucci Arena.

 


North Dakota Fighting Sioux and the Wisconsin Badgers are the main rivals for the Minnesota Gophers Hockey team. When Minnesota Gophers Hockey schedule calls for one of these teams to come to the Mariucci Arena for a game the Gopher Hockey tickets become a very hot ticket and are difficult to find.
