The arena originally could only sell 9,500 Minnesota Gophers men's basketball tickets, but in 1950, it was remodeled and expanded, making way for a capacity of 18,025. Williams Arena is known as one of the only arenas to have a raised court, in which players must climb stairs to an elevated playing surface.
