The Gopher mens hockey team is suffering from “splitsville” or some fans are calling it the “Friday Night Curse.” The Gophers lost to North Dakota 2-1 on Friday night and then rebounded to win 6-2 on Saturday night. It was a repeat performance this weekend as the Gophers hosted Colorado College on Friday night and lost 2-1 and then managed to rebound and win 2-1 on Saturday night.

The Gophers remain ranked in the top 5 nationally and are still at the top of the WCHA, but they need the support of fans now more than ever to keep that lead and break the "Friday Night Curse."

The Gopher mens hockey team returns to the ice this weekend for a home-and-home series against the St. Cloud State Huskies. The Gophers will host the Huskies on Friday night at Mariucci Arena and then will travel to SCSU Saturday night. The Gophers need to end the “Friday Night Curse” and sweep the Huskies.

It was great to see Mariucci Arena filled to capacity with college hockey fans and if you missed the game do not miss another chance to see the Gophers at Mariucci this season. I suggest buying tickets to the Colorado College match-up on January 20^th and 21^st  - ticket prices start at $35 each!

The Minnesota Gophers hockey team split with Michigan Tech, continuing to show that they are the hockey team to beat! The Gophers are one a role, preserving their fantastic talent on the ice.

Things really heated up near the end of Saturday's Minnesota-Michigan Tech game. The Gophers were comfortably ahead, 6-2, near the end of the game. Players and coaches were involved when Seth Helgeson (Minnesota) and Carl Nielsen (Michigan Tech) went at it in front of the Gopher's bench.

Both players' helmets were ripped off, and Nielson got many punches in - a major no-no in college hockey. Both players were sent off the ice with penalties and the teams continued to jaw at each other.

The coaches became involved when Tech assistant coach Bill Muckalt walked toward the Minnesota bench and began gesturing at the coaches.

Minnesota went on to win.

Michigan Tech is in town this weekend and the Gophers hockey team couldn't be more ready for a fast-paced showdown.  Gopher hockey is hot and tickets are hard to find, but we still have some!
