The Golden Gophers hockey team took on arch rival North Dakota Fighting Sioux Friday night and Saturday night at Mariucci Arena. Friday night the teams tied 3-3, but Saturday night the Gophers team showed up ready to play and beat the Sioux 5-1 in front of the second largest paid attendance in Mariucci Arena history.

"It was a real good effort by our club this weekend," Gophers head coach Don Lucia said of the blowout win and getting a tie in the series opener. "We'll take the three points and look forward to St. Cloud next weekend."
