More exciting Gopher hockey news: the National Hockey League team announced on April 2nd that Minnesota defenseman Nate Schmidt has signed a two-year entry level contract with the Washington Capital.
The Gopher hockey team will for sure miss Nate Schmidt, in 96 career games at Minnesota, Schmidt tallied 74 points and 12 goals as a two-time All-WCHA defenseman. Also, in his final two seasons with the program, Schmidt and his Gophers won back-to-back MacNaughton Cups as Western Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season champions and made two trips to the NCAA tournament including the team's run to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2011-12. You can't really beat a record like that, huh? Good luck with your hockey career, Nate Schmidt! You will be missed!
