Several members of the Minnesota Gophers hockey roster were drafted in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles. Nick Bjugstad was selected 19th overall by the Florida Panthers, Mark Alt was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes 53rd overall, Justin Holl was selected next 54th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks and Max Gardiner was selected by the St. Louis Blues with the 74th overall pick.

Congratulations Gopher hockey players for having your talents recognized by the NHL.

The 2010-2011 Minnesota Gophers mens hockey schedule has been released and for the first time in over 45 years, the Gophers hockey team will open the season with six straight home games. Mariucci arena will be a busy place!

Let's hope that home ice advantage will give the Golden Gophers hockey team a great start to a new season. Gophers Hockey Tickets will be available very soon so keep checking back.

Don't forget, there are two new rivals in the WCHA this year. The Nebraska Omaha Mavericks and Bemidji State Beavers both join the WCHA ranks for the 2010-11 season.

Nick Bjugstad from Blaine and Mark Alt from St. Paul Cretin-Derham Hall High School will attend the University of Minnesota in the fall and play hockey for the Golden Gophers.

Both players are among the top-ranked draft-eligible North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting Service and will be great assets to the Gophers hockey team...let's just hope they don't start their NHL careers before leading the Gophers to a national championship!

Nick Bjugstad and Mark Alt join five other National Letter of Intent signees from the fall: Seth Ambroz from New Prague MN, Nate Schmidt from St. Cloud MN, Max Gardiner and Justin Holl from Minnetonka MN and Eric Haula from Finland.
